Shirley Mowat was born in the Orkney Island’s capital, Kirkwall. At the age of 18, Shirley along with her husband Derek, moved to Edinburgh, where they continue to live and run a very successful hotel business. Twenty years of hard work have seen Shirley build her business from nothing, to what is now the Dunstane Hotel Group, comprising two stylish hotels in the heart of Scotland’s capital city.

Central to Shirley’s working ethos, and fundamental in her having achieved the success she has, is her focus on customer care and drive to, in her own words, “exceed customer expectations.” A visit to the Edinburgh Dunstane Hotel or the Dunstane City Hotel will testify to Shirley’s customer focus.

 

Shirley holds a Diploma in Hotel Management and is a member of Visit Scotland, the Edinburgh Principal Hotels Association and the Federation of Small Businesses.
Shirley and Derek have two children: Andrew, who is a very keen rugby player, and Isla, who adores horses and ponies.

In the little spare time she has, Shirley enjoys cooking, eating out and socializing, as well as sharing in her daughter’s interest in ponies and horses.
